About Our 8-Week Training
How the 8-Week Guitar Tech Training Course Works
Introduction
At Guitar Tech Academy, our goal is simple:
Turn motivated guitar players into capable guitar technicians in just eight weeks.
This is not just a lecture-based program or an online course.
No prior repair experience is required — only a working knowledge of guitar and a willingness to learn.
Each topic begins with a short classroom session that includes video examples and live demonstrations. Then you move to the bench and practice the skill yourself.
You’ll spend most of your time working on real guitars, learning the same techniques used in professional repair shops every day.
Our training is hands-on, practical, and designed to get you comfortable performing real guitar service work.
Once each week, you’ll complete short online refresher lessons with video and audio so you can review key concepts on your own schedule. The following day, we review the material together to make sure it has really stuck before moving on to the next skills.
Small Classes — Serious Training
Each training session is limited to four students.
Small classes mean:
• Direct access to the instructor
• Plenty of bench space and tools
• Individual coaching
• Real skill development instead of just watching demonstrations
You won’t be lost in a classroom with dozens of students.
The 8-Week Structure
Mon-Tue-Thr-Fri: In class | Wed: home study
Training runs Monday through Friday for eight weeks.
Each week builds on the previous one as you move from basic service skills to full professional setups and repairs.
You’ll learn how to
• Evaluate guitars properly
• Perform professional setups
• Diagnose and repair common problems
• Work on electronics and hardware
• Perform fretwork and precision adjustments
• Work with customers
By the end of the program
You’ll know how to handle professional setups, electronic repair, mods and most common repair issues. You’ll be ready to start your own business.
Hands-On Bench Training
Most of your time will be spent working on guitars, not sitting in a classroom.
You will practice on multiple instruments and perform the same procedures used in real repair shops.
You will learn to use professional tools and measurement techniques so your work is accurate, repeatable, and professional.
A Real Shop Environment
Training takes place inside a working professional repair shop.
This means you’ll see:
• How repair intake works
• How jobs are tracked and prioritized
• How technicians diagnose problems
• How customers are served
Understanding the business side of guitar repair is just as important as learning the technical skills.
