Become a Professional Guitar Tech

Train in a Real Guitar Shop. Work on Real Instruments. Build Real-World Skills.

Guitar Tech Academy is an intensive, hands-on training program designed to prepare you for the work professional guitar technicians actually do every day.

You won’t spend weeks watching demonstrations from across a classroom.

You’ll work on guitars.

You’ll diagnose problems, take measurements, perform setups and repairs, check your own work, correct mistakes and learn how to produce consistent results.

This is professional guitar-tech training built around real shop work.

Don’t Just Learn Guitar Repair. Learn to Work as a Guitar Tech.

Knowing how to adjust a truss rod or level a fret is only part of the job.

A professional guitar tech must know how to:

  • evaluate an instrument before beginning work
  • identify what actually needs to be corrected
  • establish a measurable baseline
  • perform adjustments in the correct sequence
  • recognize problems that affect other adjustments
  • complete repairs efficiently
  • verify the finished work
  • communicate with customers
  • maintain professional quality from one instrument to the next

At Guitar Tech Academy, you’ll learn the complete process, not just a collection of individual repair techniques.

Train Inside a Working Guitar Repair Shop

Guitar Tech Academy isn’t built around a traditional classroom.

Your training takes place in a working professional guitar shop.

That matters.

You’ll see the kinds of instruments, problems and surprises that guitar technicians encounter in the real world — not just carefully selected examples prepared for a lesson.

You’ll learn how professional repair work moves from:

Customer Take-In → Evaluation → Measurements → Repair → Setup → Quality Control → Delivery

By the time you finish, that process should be second nature.

What You’ll Learn

Your training covers the core skills required for professional guitar repair and setup work, including:

Guitar Evaluation & Diagnosis

Learn how to inspect an instrument systematically and determine what actually needs attention before making adjustments.

Professional Guitar Setups

Learn a repeatable setup process covering neck relief, nut action, string action, bridge adjustment, pickup height, tuning and intonation.

Nutwork

Learn how to evaluate, adjust and fabricate guitar nuts accurately.

Fretwork

Learn fret evaluation, leveling, crowning, polishing, partial refrets and related fret repair techniques.

Guitar Electronics

Learn to diagnose and repair common guitar wiring, pickup, switch, pot and output-jack problems.

Acoustic & Electric Guitar Systems

Understand how different bridge, neck, pickup and hardware designs affect repair and setup procedures.

Repair Shop Workflow

Learn professional take-in procedures, documentation, work sequencing and final quality control.

Customer Service & Business Fundamentals

Learn how repair work is explained, priced, documented and delivered professionally.

A Systematic Approach to Guitar Repair

A good setup shouldn’t depend on whether something simply “feels right.”

Professional work must be repeatable.

At GTA, you’ll learn to work from measurements, known reference points, tolerances and a defined sequence.

That means understanding relationships such as:

Neck Relief → Nut Action → String Action → Intonation

Change something earlier in the sequence and it may affect everything that follows.

Our goal isn’t simply to teach you adjustments.

Our goal is to teach you how to think through an instrument from beginning to end.

Work on Real Instruments

There’s a huge difference between understanding a repair and being able to perform it confidently on somebody else’s guitar.

You’ll gain hands-on experience performing actual guitar-tech work under supervision.

That means encountering instruments that don’t behave exactly like the textbook says they should.

You’ll learn how to recognize problems, make decisions and correct your work when the first solution isn’t the right one.

That’s where technicians are made.

Small Classes. Direct Instruction.

Guitar Tech Academy limits enrollment so students can receive direct instruction and hands-on guidance.

You’re not one student in a lecture hall.

You can ask questions.

You can show us what you’re seeing.

We can examine your work.

And when something isn’t right, we can figure out why.

Become Job-Ready — Or Build Your Own Business

Students come to GTA with different goals.

You may want to:

  • work as a guitar technician in a music store
  • work in an independent guitar repair shop
  • add professional repair services to an existing business
  • open your own guitar repair business
  • improve skills you’ve already developed on your own

Whatever the goal, the objective is the same:

Develop the skills and judgment required to perform professional guitar-tech work confidently and consistently.

8 Weeks of Intensive Hands-On Training

The Guitar Tech Academy professional program runs for 8 weeks of structured training.

Students may also receive up to 2 additional weeks of guided shop practice at no additional tuition cost, allowing more time to reinforce skills through real-world work.

Class sizes are intentionally small.

Tuition: $8,000

Seat Reservation Deposit: $1,250

Why Guitar Tech Academy?

There are plenty of places to learn how guitar repairs are performed.

GTA also teaches the business skills and supports students after graduation.

What does someone need to know to actually work as a professional guitar technician?

That means teaching more than isolated repair procedures.

It means teaching:

  • structured evaluation
  • measurement
  • repair sequencing
  • troubleshooting
  • consistency
  • efficiency
  • documentation
  • customer communication
  • quality control
  • Guitar shop business & marketing skills

And it means doing that work repeatedly until the process begins to become automatic.

Your First Guitar Is Not Your Education

Watching someone perform a setup is useful.

Performing one yourself is better.

Performing dozens of repairs, seeing different instruments, making mistakes, diagnosing problems and learning to correct them is where real experience begins.

That’s why Guitar Tech Academy is built around hands-on work rather than observation alone.
