Matt
Starting Point: DIY setups and repairs. Graduated 2026
Now: Full-time guitar tech, confidently performing professional setups and repairs
Guitar Tech Academy gave me the real-world experience working in a guitar shop that I needed. I’d always done my own setups and repairs, but much of it was guesswork. GTA taught me how to work from measurable data rather than sound or feel alone.
Today, I’m able to perform setups and repairs on a wide variety of stringed instruments using proven methods that deliver consistent, repeatable results.
Liam
Starting Point: Trained under various techs and luthiers Graduated: 2024
Now: Guitar Repair Shop Manager
Before apprenticing with Hank, I had trained under a few other luthiers and guitar technicians. On my very first day, Pandora’s box was opened, and I quickly realized that much of what I had learned before was either incomplete or simply the wrong approach.
Guitar Tech Academy took the mysticism out of guitar repair and replaced it with geometry, physics, and measurable results. Instead of relying on guesswork, I learned a systematic process for diagnosing problems and producing consistent outcomes.
The hands-on training, real customer instruments, and exposure to professional shop procedures accelerated my growth far beyond what I could have achieved on my own.
Today, I manage a guitar repair shop.
Chase
Starting Point: Guitar player with basic setup experience Graduated: 2025
Now: Full-time shop manager performing professional guitar setups and repairs
I’ve always loved guitars and thought I knew my way around a setup, but after completing the 8-week Guitar Tech Academy program, I realized just how much I didn’t know. The training opened my eyes to the depth of knowledge and precision required to consistently make guitars play their best.
GTA’s hands-on approach and one-on-one guidance from Hank and the team helped me replace assumptions and guesswork with proven methods and measurable results. Working on real instruments every day gave me the experience and confidence that simply can’t be gained from watching videos or reading online forums.
More importantly, the program gave me the confidence to tackle virtually any problem a guitar can throw my way. Whether it’s setups, fretwork, diagnostics, or repairs, I now have a systematic process for identifying problems and finding solutions.
If you’re serious about learning guitar repair and want real-world, hands-on training, Guitar Tech Academy provides the knowledge, experience, and confidence needed to succeed.
Brett
Starting Point: No guitar repair experience Graduates: 2026
Now: In 2nd half of course – performing professional-level setups, fretwork and learning advanced electronics
Guitar Tech Academy has completely transformed both my understanding of guitars and my confidence working on them. Before GTA, I couldn’t even restring a guitar and make it look good. Within the first two weeks of training, I was already performing setups that exceeded typical industry standards.
The hands-on training and step-by-step instruction made it possible to learn quickly while understanding not just what to do, but why each adjustment matters. Every day brought new skills, real-world experience, and the confidence that comes from working on actual instruments under professional guidance.
I’m currently in the electronics portion of the program, and Hank explains complex concepts in a way that makes them easy to understand and apply. What once seemed intimidating now makes sense.
GTA has shown me that guitar repair is a skill that can be learned through the right training and practice. I’m excited to continue building my skills and look forward to starting my own guitar repair business in the near future.
Cole
Starting Point: Guitar player with no previous repair experience Graduated: 2025
Now: Completed GTA apprenticeship and started working as a professional guitar repair tech.
I just completed the apprenticeship program at Guitar Tech Academy, and the amount of knowledge and hands-on experience I gained was incredible. Before starting the program, I had a passion for guitars but very little understanding of the skills and techniques used by professional guitar technicians.
Throughout the apprenticeship, I learned everything from proper restringing and setup procedures to advanced fretwork, including level-and-crown work on both acoustic and electric guitars. Every lesson built on the one before it, allowing me to develop confidence and competence through real-world practice.
One of the things I appreciated most was the opportunity to ask questions, receive individual guidance, and immediately apply what I was learning. Support was always available, and the hands-on training made it easy to understand concepts that would have been difficult to learn from videos or books alone.
I would highly recommend Guitar Tech Academy to anyone interested in becoming a guitar technician. The program provides practical skills, real-world experience, and professional guidance at a fraction of the cost of many other training programs.
The skills and experience I gained through GTA helped me earn a guitar tech position, where I continued developing as a professional guitar technician.
